Woman With Asperger’s Who Posted Viral Video With Her Dog Shot Dead By Police : Mesa Police Department
A woman with Asperger’s who was known for posting a viral video that showed her service dog comforting her was fatally shot by police.
According to reports, Danielle Jacobs was shot dead by Mesa police officers after they reported to her apartment shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday for a suicide call.
Jacobs mother had phoned police when she was unable to talk her daughter out of committing suicide.
Authorities said that 24-year-old Jacobs charged at them with a knife and they fired shots in self-defense.
Jacobs’ video posted last year that showed her crying while her dog Samson comforted her while she was having a meltdown and used his own body to shield her from hitting herself garnered millions of views.
“This is what having Asperger’s like,” she wrote alongside the clip, and told the Huffington Post, “When I have a meltdown, I often have self-injurious behavior and I often self-harm.”
Jacobs’ video was later made private but she had recently uploaded a knew video of the dog serving as her companion and caretaker during a bad episode of anxiety.
