Germany’s Leader Merkel Demands “Respect For Journalists” In Meeting With VP Pence

The “world’s most powerful woman”, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, has reminded Vice President Pence of the importance of a “free, independent press” during a meeting in Munich.

Merkel and Pence both spoke at the Munich Security Conference. When asked about the latest attacks from President Trump against the American news media, Merkel said, “I advocate a free, independent press and have high respect for journalists.”

The Chancellor added that mutual respect between the government and the media was important to her, saying, “We have always had very good experience, at least in Germany, with mutual respect.”

Pence has made no comment on the remarks. His boss had tweeted earlier that “The FAKE NEWS media … is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!”
