ASOS Marketplace Under Fire For Selling “SLAVE” Shirt Worn By Black Model
A popular online clothing store is under fire after listing a questionable shirt for sell on their website. ASOS marketplace began receiving hundreds of complaints from social media users for marketing and selling a shirt by Wasted Heroes that had the word “SLAVE” printed across it.
The shirt was worn by an African American model and was quickly removed after the company received negative comments from some of their loyal buyers.
“Whenever we find a product that violates our policies we remove it immediately,” the company told Mic. “There is also a ‘report this item’ link under every product picture.”
The shirt retails for $27.53 on the Wasted Heroes website and according to reports, the company has no intentions of removing it. A spokesperson with Wasted Heroes said that the shirt does not have racist connotations.
“The T-shirt was referencing that we are slaves to fashion labels hence why it is titled ‘Slave to the label’ and no offense was intended with this design or listing,” the company issued in a statement.
